Stefaan was invited to give a Spotlight Talk on “Modelling Mechanical Microenvironments” at the 2026 meeting of the Orthopaedic Research Society.

The Lab has been awarded a Consolidator Grant by the European Research Council, providing €2 million for a 5 year programme of research on cancer-bone crosstalk. Stay tuned, the lab will soon be hiring!

Stefaan & Natalia visit the Hernandez Lab at University California, San Francisco to complete their EPSRC International Collaboration Project!

Fiona publishes a new paper in the journal Bone.

In late February, Stefaan joined a team from Queen Mary University of London travelling to Malaysia to demonstrate our innovative research in medical technology, at an event organised by the British Council.

This year the Orthopaedic Research Society held its first Pride@ORS Network event in the main meeting programme, with Stefaan leading a panel discussion with three fantastic academics with diverse research and backgrounds.

Stefaan is invited to join the Royal Society Research Grants Committee for Physical Sciences for two years.

Prof Karl Lewis visits the Verbruggen Lab as part of the Cornell-QMUL Global Hubs Initiative. Karl shared the Lewis Lab’s ground-breaking intravital imaging of osteocytes, and gave a wonderful talk at the Royal Veterinary College for the Bloomsbury Centre for Skeletal Research.

Dr Stefaan Verbruggen was awarded the “Outstanding Contribution to Research Award” at the Annual Faculty of Science and Engineering Celebration for his research contributions in the development of organ-chip models.
